Another fabulous offering, David. Your attention to detail is remarkable. And Corvidae is a little gem. So, so Hookland.

Thank you for another fascinating edition of The Chronicle. Two items resonate strongly with me.

Firstly, I too am of an age that recalls Halloween merely as an ill defined night that meant the real autumn celebration of bonfire night was nigh. Is still means little to me, but I certainly don’t begrudge those who enjoy it’s formalised “spookery”.

Secondly, watching Corvidae moved me in a way I found hard to define until I read your review. Now I see that making the mundane, muddy, damp, untidy, winter countryside of England a place of enchantment & mystery is its stunning achievement. Watching it I am reminded of my solitary, dull, winter school holidays, avoiding bullies and seeking elusive marvels in muddy fields, copses & lanes. I never found them of course, not like the protagonist in this profound, joyous gem of a film.

Re-enchantment is joyous resistance . Thank you.
